Life as an Erasmus student in Copenhagen: first impressions
After two years in Leicester you feel confidant and cosy. You know the campus, the nights out and the people. So with this in mind why the hell would you want to do an Erasmus year you might ask? Being two months in my year abroad I can tell you why Erasmus was a good choice and you might find yourself agreeing with me (anything is possible).
I began my year in Copenhagen with confusion and a sore head. This was mostly to do with drinking rather than trouble you might be relieved to know. As an Erasmus student at Copenhagen University i was given a student mentor who helped me in my first few weeks to understand the logistics of living in one of the most picturesque capitals of Europe. The first thing i learnt was that you need to know how to ride a bike or you’re finished!
Like many large cities there is a huge shortage of accommodation and you might find it strange to hear that i live 9 miles away from my law faculty. This is a huge difference for a guy who lived at Nixon Court last year! However, saying that it hasn’t been too bad. The journey is about 45 minutes by bike and i’m sure i’ll be pretty buff by the end of the year so something to look forward to at least.
The best moment so far has been the 36-hour party at my hall of residence. There was a competition between the floors on who could drink the most. We came second to the alcoholics on the second floor. We might have lost but at least we kept our dignity.
